International Organization for Migration (IOM) carries out activities of the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Programme within the framework of the project Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration in Country of Origin (individual project).This project is co-funded by the European Union from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF). Home Affairs Funds. The project is also co-funded by the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic.

Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund

The Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund was established for the period 2014-2020 by the Act of European Parliament /Council (EU) no. 516/2016 of 16 April 2014. The statutory body of the Fund is the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic.

Objective of the Fund

The general objective of the Fund is to contribute to the efficient management of migration flows and the implementation, strengthening and development of a common Union approach to asylum and immigration policy, subsidiary protection and temporary protection, while fully respecting the rights and principles enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

This Fund further supports following activities:

  • Strengthening and developing all the aspects of the Common European Asylum System, including its external dimension.
  • Supporting legal migration to EU Member States in line with the economic and social needs, such as labor market needs. At the same time ensuring the integrity of immigration systems of the Member States and promoting the effective integration of non-EU nationals.
  • Enhancing fair and effective return strategies in Member States, which contribute to combating irregular migration, with an emphasis on sustainability and effectiveness of the return process in countries of origin and transit countries.
  • Strengthening the solidarity and responsibility sharing among Member States, particularly with regard to those Member States that are most affected by migration and asylum flows. This activity includes also practical cooperation.

Support of the implementation of AVRR Programme since 2004

In years 2009-2015 IOM implemented the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Programme and prepared and updated the website www.avr.iom.sk within the implementation of the projects Assistance to Unsuccessful Asylum Seekers and Irregular Migrants from Slovakia to Countries of Origin – Phase I, II and III and Voluntary Return and Reintegration in Country of Origin.

The projects were co-funded by the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic and European Union from the European Return Fund. Solidarity and Management of Migration Flows.

In the period 2004-2008 IOM implemented Assisted Voluntary Return Programme within the implementation of projects Capacity Building and Implementation of the Voluntary Return Programme, Capacity Building and Implementation of Assisted Voluntary Return to Country of Origin Programme and Development of a Comprehensive System of Information Dissemination on Programme of Assisted Voluntary Returns and its Implementation with Focus on Needs of Migrants.

The projects were funded by the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic and by EU through the European Refugee Fund.
