In 2016 116 migrants returned home voluntarily with IOM assistance

In year 2016 IOM helped 116 foreigners to return from Slovakia to their country of origin. The majority returned to Iraq (70), Algeria (9) and Ukraine (9) ), in total to 18 different countries.

IOM provides assistance to foreigners with issuing emergency travel documents, provides travel tickets, accommodation, food, clothes and health care and realize the return to country of origin, including transport within Slovakia, assistance at the airport by departure and in transit countries and if needed also transport in the country of origin.

In the period 2004-2016 IOM assisted in total 1 374 migrants with their voluntary return home. In 2016 IOM for the first time assisted with the return of migrant to Algeria. As a result, the number of countries to which migrants have returned from Slovakia increased to 62.

Since 2007 IOM has been providing the returnees also with the reintegration assistance , in order to ensure their basic needs upon their return. In 2016 IOM provided reintegration assistance to 20 individuals or whole families worth of 31 483,26 euro in Iraq, Viet Nam, India, Afghanistan, Russia, Iran, Thailand, Brazil, Peru, Belarus and Ukraine. The returnees used the assistance mainly for business activities and for covering basic living needs and education expenses.

Since 2007 IOM provided reintegration upon return to 204 individuals or whole families in 28 countries all over the world. They were awarded reintegration assistance in total amount of 312 147,96 euro.
